The first day of exploring the bantam river

Updated: Sep 12, 2019

The first day on the Bantam river yielded some wonderful results which included a brook trout the discovery of TWO beaver dams and what seems to be some sort of spring feeding the river. unfortunately the water is extremely low right now leaving fish stuck in some of the pools that have formed due to lack of water. creek chubs, yellow perch, brook trout, sculpin, painted turtle, and largemouth bass have been spotted or caught in the last week, no mayfly, caddis, or stonefly hatches have been seen yet. The fact that a brook trout was caught on the river was surprising, finding a healthy trout in the river so late in the season is very exciting. the two beaver dams impose a bit of a problem, the water is being held back from the rest of the river but at the same time the water is very, very slow moving from all parts of the river so if taken down they could potentially make the flow of the river much more slow and permanently damage peggys pool.

unfortunatley the river particularly upstream on the west branch is severely limited now

you can tell this is stocked because of the clipped dorsal fin

Since deployment

Since the deployment of the data logger not much has been going on. I have been editing code and upgrading it bit by bit. we are looking for a different section of the stream with deeper water so that

SUCCESS!!

I have finally gotten my data logger logging temperature! the problem was that I didn't have a 4.7k ohm resistor on my breadboard. I will post more updates as I progress in C++
